Extortion case: Crime Branch Cell arrest 22-year-old shooter

A 22-year-old shooter, who was wanted in two cases of firing and extortion in Delhi and a close associate of Vikas Jharodia gang, was arrested by the Crime Branch Cell of Delhi Police from South-West Delhi’s Dwarka and a country-made semi-automatic pistol with two live cartridges were also recovered from his possession, police said on Sunday.  

However, police were still looking for other accused, who were still at large. According to police, the shooter was identified as Mohit alias Bholi, a resident of Nangloi. Police said he was pursuing his graduation through correspondence but started indulging in criminal activities due to bad company. 

Two criminal cases were registered against him at Nihal Vihar police station and while he was in jail in these two cases, he came in contact with Naveen Jharodia and joined his associate Vikas Jharodia after coming out on bail. 

“Acting on a tip-off, that one close aide of Vikas Jharodia namely Bholi involved in cases of firing at property dealers for extortion would come at Dwarka, accordingly a trap was laid near the expected place and the accused was arrested from the spot,” said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch). 

During the interrogation, the accused had revealed that he met Naveen Jharodia in jail, who was in judicial custody in ex-MLA Bharat Singh assault case. His other two associates namely notorious gangster Vikas Jharodia and Virender Sehrawat who were in jail in the same case and both of them had jumped the bail granted to them by the trial court. Thereafter, Vikas Jharodia and Virender got indulged in several cases of extortion from businessmen and property dealers in West and South West Delhi. 

Several cases of extortion have been registered against them. When Mohit was granted bail, Naveen asked Mohit to meet Vikas Jharodia and Virender outside the jail. After, Mohit came out of jail and met the gangster Vikas and joined him in extortion.
