Experts from IIT Kharagpur visit flyover collapse site

A team comprising experts from IIT Kharagpur visited the site of the collapsed Vivekananda Flyover on Wednesday morning. It may be mentioned that the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced on the day of the incident that experts from the IIT will look into the planning of the flyover and would help in ascertaining the reason behind the collapse. The experts on Wednesday went to the spot accompanied by the joint commissioner of police (crime) Debashis Boral. They examined the existing part of the flyover from where the portion had collapsed claiming 26 lives and leaving many injured. This is the first time when the experts had visited the spot. On April 6, two experts of the IIT who are members of the committee that was formed to probe into the incident, held a meeting with the chief secretary Basudeb Banerjee and some other senior officials of the state government in Nabanna. The experts had asked the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority to provide the technical drawing of the flyover’s structural design.

Experts from RITES had also visited the spot and initiated the task to ascertain the exact reason behind the collapse.
