Mystery shrouds the death of the former chairman of Chandrakona Town Municipality, whose body was found hanging from the ceiling inside his room.
Based on primary investigation, police suspect that Swapan Roy, who was also a local CPI(M) leader, had been suffering from mental depression. Roy’s family told police that, on Monday morning, he had gone out of the house but returned a few hours later. After returning home, Roy locked his room from the inside. They repeatedly knocked on his door, but he neither responded nor opened the door. After being informed, police reached Roy’s home and broke open his room’s door to find that him hanging from the ceiling.
Roy’s body was sent for post-mortem examination. He was a former zonal secretary of the CPI(M). Police suspect that Roy might have committed suicide as the door was locked from the inside. They have started a detailed probe and are waiting for post-mortem report.
