Evening showers spell traffic woes

The dust storm followed by heavy rainfall in several parts of the national Capital led to severe traffic snarls, mostly in the southern part of the city, on Wednesday evening.

“The maximum rain was reported from Palam which was 0.7 mm while 0.4 mm of rain was reported from Safdargunj,” said a senior officer at Regional Meteorological Centre, New Delhi.

According to Delhi Traffic Police, severe congestions were reported in the city between 5 pm and 6.30 pm during and after the rain.

Long tailbacks were reported at stretches between IIT-Delhi and Chirag Delhi, Safdarjung Hospital and the <g data-gr-id="17">karbala</g> in Jor Bagh, at the Karnal bypass near Swaroop Nagar in the outer fringes of the city, near Akshardham metro station, near Lajpat Nagar and Jangpura, and near Priya complex in Vasant Vihar, said a traffic official.
