Espionage case: PA of Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha MP arrested

Delhi Police are also trying to nab other members of the racket who, it believes, were in close contact with Pakistan High Commission staffer Mehmood Akhtar.

A personal assistant of Samajwadi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Munvvar Saleem was on Saturday arrested by Delhi Police in connection with the espionage racket in which a Pakistan High Commission staffer was expelled from the country, the fourth arrest in the case.

Farhat was detained on Friday night from the residence of Mr. Saleem in New Delhi and was arrested on Saturday afternoon after prolonged questioning, said a senior Crime Branch officer.

The officer said that preliminary questioning has led to certain revelations that need to be further investigated as other names have cropped up.

Delhi Police are also trying to nab other members of the racket who, it believes, were in close contact with Pakistan High Commission staffer Mehmood Akhtar who was caught receiving secret documents in New Delhi on October 26, 2016.

Two others, Maulana Ramzan and Subhash Jangir, residents of Nagaur, Rajasthan, were held along with Akhtar. Another accused Shoaib was detained in Jodhpur and brought to Delhi by the police where he was arrested.
