It may be mentioned that her party had opposed the proposal of taxing the EPF corpus at the time of withdrawal. It was stated that the budget had hurt the middle class as the proposal to impose tax on EPF as unprecedented one.
She tweeted: “EPF roll back. A victory for the common people. Happy that we were the first to raise the issue. Good.”
Banerjee tweeted after the proposal was withdrawn by the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
A senior leader of the party said the Centre had no other way out apart from taking the decision to withdraw their proposal as it was not only criticised by the political party but also by a major section of the people.
“They understood that it may leave an impact and we will continue raising our voice if such steps are taken again in future,” the leader said, adding it has brought relief to thousands of employees.
