Swayze's 'Dirty Dancing' jacket auctioned for $62K

A leather jacket worn by late Hollywood actor Patrick Swayze in the 1987 romantic dance drama Dirty Dancing was sold for a whopping USD 62,500 at an auction here.
Hundreds of other items belonging to Swayze – including a surfboard from the movie Point Break and a shirt he wore in the flick Ghost also went under the hammer.
His maroon silk shirt and Reebok trainers from 1990 film Ghost went for £13,385, while the actor's DeLorean car was sold for £62,700. One of Swayze's teeth and a set of X-ray images showing his knee and broken leg was also bought for £4,940.

"No matter what, it is still a letting go. There is always a little bit of loss associated with that. While it is a very positive thing to do, it is a difficult thing to do," Lisa Niemi, Swayze's widow was quoted as saying by 'BBC News'.

Niemi said she had "a lot of mixed feelings" about selling the items. She added that a grief counsellor had also advised her that auctioning off the items "would be really healthy". The leather jacket was bought by a Hollywood memorabilia collector, who identified himself as Glenn.

She said she wanted to share Swayze's memorabilia with his fans but refused to comment on opposition from his niece Danielle Swayze, who described the auction as a "slap in the face".
Swayze, an actor, dancer and singer-songwriter, died at the age of 57 from pancreatic cancer in 2009.
The auction went ahead despite strong opposition from Swayze's niece Danielle.
