A MOM's choice between wrong and very wrong

Starring Sridevi and Sajal Ali, MOM is a story about a mother and daughter who get involved in an unfortunate sitaution. Directed by Ravi Udyawar, the movie hits the screens countrywide on Friday.

After giving a splendid performance in English Vinglish, Sridevi is back on the silver screen with her upcoming venture, MOM. In English Vinglish, the actor proved that she is still the one that Bollywood requires and therefore, this time the expectations are high. MOM will also mark her 300th film and 50 years in the industry. Remarkable actors like Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Akshaye Khanna are featuring opposite Sridevi.
Talking about her role, Sridevi says, "I was in a different frame of mind while shooting for MOM. It was an unconscious decision when I decided to avoid talking to people for the sake for my role. I was so indulged in my character that my brain didn't allow me to just be my normal self. I was in a shell, I was not communicating with my family as much as I normally would. In fact my daughter told me at the end of all the shoots and filming that 'Mom thank God you are back to being normal again'".
Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays the role of an ordinary man named Dayashankar Kapoor in the movie. When asked about the role, Nawaz said, "He is someone you would have come across in real life but would not have paid attention to. Such people appear normal and ordinary but if you encounter them, you will be taken aback with their personality".
Nawaz is not looking himself in the trailers. The get-up was decided overnight by the director and it was Nawaz's dedication that he sat through the make-up which took four hours every day. "The most difficult part was to get into the skin of the character with all that make-up. Few shots were taken in Chandni Chowk, Delhi and to everybody's surprise, the make-up was so perfectly blended that he went unrecognized," said producer Boney Kapoor.
"There are so many people who pass by unnoticed in places like Daryaganj and Chandni Chowk. My look and character is inspired from those people," added Nawaz while talking about the inspiration behind his character.
The audience will be seeing Akshaye Khanna after a long hiatus from screen. With a small role as a cop in MOM, he will be making a comeback to the big screens. When asked about the reason behind his absence Akshaye said, "I took a break because some personal reason didn't allow me to focus and start something new. It was not an intentional setback and is definitely not something I want to do ever again. I have become more open to press and people because I feel that I might just become irrelevant. And it was because he was starting after a long time that I wanted to take on smaller roles to test myself." On this, Boney added, "I'm sure he will smash it in the film. He's a bundle of talent who remains reclusive and exclusive. He was so dedicated that he knew the script more than the director and there were times when he would narrate the dialogues of other actors too. He is an asset to the film as he is to the film industry. He is a fantastic actor and a great human being."
"Although I have decided to do small roles, I will never compromise on the content and quality. Both Nawaaz and I are doing extended cameo roles but the impact our characters will have on the audience is tremendous and that is want we both want," he added.
The movie also has Oscar winning composer AR Rahman as the music director. Releasing tomorrow, MOM is an unfortunate incident which widens the distance between a mother, played by Sridevi and daughter (Sajal Ali), to a point of no return. In such a situation a mother has to make a choice – not between 'what is wrong or right', but between 'what is wrong and very wrong.'
