Director of Jabariya Jodi about the concept of 'Pakadwa Shaadi'

Jabariya Jodi, a film which is based on the concept of Pakadwa Shaadi, is already making noise across the nation with its trailer being launched recently, and the recent songs, which people are grooving on.

In an interview, Director Prashant Singh opens up about the entire concept of Pakadwa Shaadi – the backdrop of the film. Prashant Singh says, "Jabariya marriage is a concept of the forced wedding, which is a 30 – 40-year-old tradition in Bihar. This kind of a forced wedding happens when the groom (or his family), asks for dowry or backs out of a wedding because of dowry-related issues, resulting in his abduction by bride's family via criminal gangs."

"Surprisingly, in some cases, kidnappers are not "professional" but are members of those families who can't afford to pay the dowry for their daughters' marriage. They may also be their friends or relatives," he reveals.

"This concept in Bihar is looked upon as a very light and fun affair. They don't consider it much as a crime so the forced weddings," the director adds.

The Prashant Singh directorial is shot at real locations in Uttar Pradesh, to give the right flavour and essence of the story. Actor Sidharth Malhotra will be seen essaying a rustic character for the first time. With the popular on-screen chemistry, Sidharth is reuniting with Parineeti Chopra to deliver one of its kind love stories to the audience.

The film also stars the varied powerhouses of talent such as Aparshakti Khurana, Sanjay Mishra, Neeraj Sood, Gopal Dutt, Javed Jaffrey, and Chandan Roy Sanyal. Produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor, and Shaailesh R Singh, Jabariya Jodi will hit the screens on August 2, 2019.
