Boyega hits out at 'Star Wars' fans for abusive behaviour

Actor John Boyega has slammed online trolls for their abusive and racist behaviour towards his co-stars from the film Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The 26-year-old actor's comments came weeks after Kelly Marie Tran, who portrayed the character of Rose Tico in the Rian Johnson-directed film, deleted all of her Instagram posts due to months of online harassment.

"If you don't like Star Wars or the characters, understand that there are decision makers and harassing the actors/actresses will do nothing. You're not entitled to politeness when your approach is rude. Even if you paid for a ticket!" Boyega wrote on Twitter. In a subsequent tweet, Boyega said, "To the majority of Star Wars fans thank you for supporting and putting yourselves in our shoes. You understand that there is a process so much appreciated!"

Boyega is the second co-star of Tran to criticise the franchise fans for their behaviour. Earlier, veteran actor Mark Hamill and Johnson had

also tweeted their support for Tran, who is the first Asian to feature in the franchise.

"What's not to love?# GetALifeNerds" Hamill wrote on Twitter while sharing his picture with Tran. Johnson slammed the "manbabies" and the fans for their abusive behaviour on social media.

"On social media a few unhealthy people can cast a big shadow on the wall, but over the past 4 years I've met lots of real fellow SW fans. We like and dislike stuff but we do it with humour, love and respect. We're the vast majority, we're having fun & doing just fine," he wrote on Twitter.

Actor Daisy Ridley, Tran's co-star, was also subjected to online abuse after she debuted in Force Awakens.
