Baadshahos in town

The upcoming movie by Milan Luthria, is a multi-starrer, with Ileana D’Cruz, Ajay Devgan, Isha Gupta and Emran Hashmi in the lead roles. The film is an action adventure set against the backdrop of ‘Emergency’

-Set against the backdrop of emergency, Baadshaho, a multi-starrer, is all set to get released this Friday. Though the subject has been taken up quite a few times by the filmmakers, what this new film is offering to the audience sparks some curiosity. On being asked about the same, Luthria, the director, who has given hits like Once upon a time in Mumbai and Dirty Picture says, "As far as I know, the last movie made on the subject was a political satire whereas Baadshaho shares quite a distinctive approach towards the emergency. It is a period drama that talks about the characters more than the time in which it is set."
Adding to the same, Ajay Devgn, who will be seen playing a quintessential role in the movie, says, "The film does not talk about emergency rather it is an action adventure where the emergency is a mere backdrop."
The film also stars Emraan Hashmi, Ileana D'Cruz, and Isha Gupta. Ileana will be seen portraying Queen Geetanjali, heir to the royal family, who gets affected as well during the emergency. The actor, who proved herself through her past remarkable performances, did not take any reference to prepare for her character as she found no need to do so. "When you have a script that is well written with a well-defined character, you don't really need a reference point," she said. Isha, playing another character, however, had to observe and behave the way actors used to, back in the 1970s. Talking about her character, she says that Milan wanted to recreate Parveen Babi, Zeenat Amaan and actors like them, who were feminine yet very strong women. He wanted the same body language and style on the screen."
This is not the first time that Emraan and Ajay have performed under the direction of Luthria. The trio had earlier worked together to give big time commercial entertainers like Once upon a time in Mumbai and its sequel. Talking about his experience of working with the two actors, Milan said that it has been phenomenal. "Actors, who can really understand the director's vision and thereby grasp the essence of the plot, are rare to find. Ajay, on one hand, has a great understanding of cinema. On the other hand, Emran is really deep and instinctive when it comes to doing a film. He takes his time to understand things well. Though he does not believe in flaunting but I know the amount of effort he put in his role." One can get to witness the magnificent beauty of Rajasthan in the movie. Commenting on if the location is used as a character itself, Ajay said,"We were lucky enough to find real virgin locations with no construction. It added to the barrenness that we wanted to showcase,"
