Ensure power supply to 14 Sunderban Isles: CM to Power Min

A meeting headed by Banerjee held in this connection in Nabanna and it was attended by the power minister Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, Manish Gupta the advisor to the Chief Minister (power and non-conventional energy), Chief Secretary, power Secretary and chiefs of power corporations.

In the meeting, CM took a stock of the ongoing projects of the power department besides discussing about the condition of the power generation units in the state. Sources in Nabanna said that she discussed about the present status of power supply at different areas of the district including Sunderbans. 

Being aware that there are 14 islands in Sunderbans where the power is yet to reach, she directed the power minister to take necessary steps to expedite the work to ensure power supply to those islands as fast as possible.

She further mentioned in the meeting that power supply has been ensured in 97 per cent of the areas in the state. But the work to ensure power in rest of the 3 per cent of the area has to be done in war footing. The sharp increase in number of consumers of power in the state came up in the discussions and the issues of generation of power as per the requirement had also been discussed.

It is learnt that she wanted to know whether there is any difficulties in generating power as per its requirement with the increase in the number of consumers. She was told that there is no problem at all in respect of generation of power in the state at the moment.

According to the sources the discussion came to end on an important note that there shouldn’t be any problem in generation of power when more industries will start setting up in the state. She had directed the minister and others present in the meeting to ensure the same and to take necessary steps from now onward if necessary.
