Engineering student found dead in Bolpur

A third-year engineering student was on Sunday found dead at the gate of a hospital in Bolpur, after he was allegedly beaten by some miscreants of a rival group, police said.

The body of Nishant Kiran, a student at a private engineering college in the town, was dumped at the gate of the Emergency Ward of Bolpur hospital in the wee hours, hospital officials said.

Police were trying to find out the exact reason that led to the incident, but they suspect that Kiran was killed during a fight between two groups of college students.

Police said the youth was originally a resident of Patna and he used to stay here in a house at Jamboni in Bolpur with three other students of the same college.

Police are yet to identify the miscreants, but preliminary investigation revealed that on Saturday night some youths headed by a local resident Jiaul had raided the place where the victim used to reside. They allegedly beat him up till he fell unconscious.

Later, two youths posing as his classmates, took the victim to Bolpur Primary Health Centre. The duo told the doctors that the victim was injured as he met with a road accident. The two youths, somehow, managed to flee after leaving Kiran in the hospital with severe injury. Doctors said Kiran already dead before he was brought to the hospital.

On Sunday morning, the college administration went to the hospital and identified Kiran’s body. His parents have also been informed. Police have initiated a probe in this connection.

The investigating officers came to know that a section of students were divided into two groups and one was headed by the victim.

His rival group had failed to beat the victim and his closed ones on different issues. The police were trying to establish the exact reason behind the murder.
