Engineer sold in Saudi Arabia cattle farm returns home safely

A 23-year-old automobile engineer from Naihati in North 24 Parganas, who was sold to work like a slave in a cattle farm in Saudi Arab, safely returned to the country on Tuesday.

The youth Jayanta Biswas was helped to return in a flight from Riyad in Saudi Arabia and he landed in Mumbai this evening. He will be reaching Kolkata on Wednesday.

His family members, friends and local people held rallies in their area seeking help to bring back Biswas. His family members had approached the Ministry of External Affairs seeking help to bring Biswas back. The ministry had intervened and assured that he returned to the country safely.

Following intervention of the Ministry of External Affairs, Saudi Arabia administration on Tuesday helped Biswas to take a flight from Riyad. His cousin brother Uttam Biswas was accompanying him. His parents have appreciated the role played by the ministry of external affairs to bring Biswas back.

Biswas was taken to Saudi Arabia with assurance that he will be getting a better job there. He was in search for a better job after completion of his course of automobile engineering. Some touts from Delhi had taken Rs 1 lakh from him and sent him to Saudi Arabia in the beginning of this year with fake offer letter of a company. He went there on May 15 with a tourist visa as he was told that he would be getting a working visa if he stays there for at least three months.

The person, whom he was asked to meet in Saudi Arabia, had engaged him in a cattle farm to work as a labourer. Realising that he has been trapped, Biswas attempted to flee and went to a police station. Jayanta was also arrested in Riyad as a false complaint of fleeing with 10,000 riyal was lodged against him. He had a respite only after his parents gave Rs 35,000 to the people in Delhi who had sent him to Saudi Arabia.

He was beaten up mercilessly after he was caught while attempting to flee. It is learnt that he was given proper treatment.
