Engineer murder: Police identify two accused

The police have identified two youth who were involved in the murder of the engineer from Sonarpur, who was beaten to death when he went to the have biryani with his friends near Maddox Square.
Police said that they identified the four youth involved in the incident after going through footage of a surveillance camera. The camera in which the entire incident was caught was of a residential apartment in the area and it was installed at a distance of around 70 metre from the spot.

As a result, faces of two youth were quite clear in the footage while the two others cannot be figured out. At the same time the police have questioned the three friends of the victim – Chiranjit Nandy, Debjyoti Bhattacharya and Surojit Naskar. The victim Romit Mondal went out of his house to have biryani with these three friends.

The police have confirmed that they have not found proof of a scuffle taking place inside the car in the footage of the surveillance camera. It shows that the youth got engaged into a fight on the road and later they had moved out of the place with injured Romit in the car.

Police had prepared portrait parley of the accused based on the description given by the victim’s friends. But there was no similarity between the portrait parleys and the faces of accused as found in the footages.

Initially, the police came to know that the victim and his friends had gone to Kolaghat that night before coming to Park Circus to have biryani from a famous joint. But on Wednesday, Chiranjit told the police that they had not gone to Kolaghat. They straightway came to Park Circus after leaving their house, collected biryani from the shop and went near Maddox Square, where they had biryani inside their car. He also told the police that there was no one in the car apart from the four friends.

The trouble broke out all of a sudden when the accused had started speaking to them in raised voices. Police have also questioned some local youth to identify the people from the area who usually return home at the time when the incident had taken place on Friday. But the police are yet to arrest anyone in this connection.
