The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notice to the Delhi government and police over the death of a vegetable vendor due to alleged electrocution in a public toilet, a statement said on Wednesday.
Taking <g data-gr-id="13">suo</g> <g data-gr-id="14">motu</g> cognizance of media reports, the NHRC has sought a report from Delhi Chief Secretary KK Sharma and Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi within four weeks. Kishan Lal, 40, was electrocuted while entering a public toilet in east Delhi’s Kishan Kunj on June 24.
The NHRC noted that despite several complaints lodged with the power distribution company, it failed to act leading to the vegetable vendor’s death.
“The commission has observed that the contents of the press reports, if true, raise <g data-gr-id="12">serious</g> issue of violation of human rights of the victim,” it added.
