Election Commission likely to announce LS poll date on 3 March

The Election Commission of India is likely to announce 16th general Lok Sabha election schedule on 3 March. Schedule for three states assembly polls including Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim will also be announced.

According to sources in ECI, the polling may be conducted over five phases in April-May. The Delhi electoral official said that the poll schedule would be decided keeping factors examination schedule , holidays and festivals in mind.

Delhi election officer requested to chief election commissioner to set the last week of April as polling time, while in last general election in 2009 Delhi polling was held on 7 May.

It was speculated that ECI might announce Lok Sabha poll on 28 February, but as some sources hit that due to some understanding date has been little delayed as UPA government is to announce some pre-poll bonanza like extending retirement age of central government employees from 60 to 65 years
