Elderly woman strangled to death at Harinavi

The body of an elderly woman with injury marks was found inside a flat at Harinavi on Friday. 

Police said the victim has been identified as Dipannita Mukherjee was a resident of Netaji Nagar area. They suspect that the woman was strangulated to death. The reason behind the murder is yet to be ascertained. 

Police came to know after speaking to the victim’s family members that she had left her Netaji Nagar home on Thursday as she had to visit a relative in a hospital.

The woman didn’t return home since Thursday. 

Her family members also searched for her but they failed to find her. However, they lodged a complaint at police station.

The flat at Harinavi, where her body was found, is owned by the victim's brother who stays in Mumbai for his job. Keys of the flat used to be with the victim. 

On Friday night, her family members went to the flat and found the main door was open. After entering the flat they found Mukherjee’s body lying on the floor. 

Police sent the body for post-mortem. During interrogation, the security personnel of the apartment told that he had seen an unknown man leaving the apartment on Thursday. But he failed to provide any details about the person. Policemen from Sonarpur police station initiated a search for the accused.
