Elderly man dies at RML hospital due to shortage of ventilator

Shortage of ventilators at Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital resulted in the death of 62-year-old patient Zafar Ahmed on Monday evening.

Hailing from Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, Ahmed was admitted to the hospital at a critical state.  Ahmed was undergoing treatment in the hospital since November 19.

According to the sources, situation of Ahmed deteriorated on  Sunday and there was a requirement of him to be put on ventilator. The shortage of ventilators, however, caused the doctors at RML to keep on deferring it.

Ultimately, a delay in providing life saving ventilators resulted in the death of Zafar Ahmed. Ahmed breathed his last at 5.00 pm on Monday evening.

Shortage of ventilators has been a big challenge at RML. Sources indicate that shortage of ventilators have also resulted in 2-3 deaths of patients earlier at the hospital.
