Ekbalpore youth death: High Court seeks report

Calcutta High Court has sought a status report from the government on the incident of the murder of a youth at Ekbalpore.

The Court has asked the public prosecutor many questions in relation to this incident. It asked how the victim had received injuries on his body, if he had died due to addiction.

Police in the report said that excessive addiction was the cause of his death. But the court has also asked how the victim had suffered internal injuries on his head. The matter will be appearing on January 6 for hearing.

The court also asked the public prosecutor why the police report suggested that the victim died of multi organ failure while the hospital admission form of the victim said that he was admitted after meeting with an accident. The public prosecutor told the court that in the medical report it was mentioned that the victim died a natural death.

It may be mentioned that the victim’s family members alleged that he was beaten to death while in police custody. The public prosecutor also told the court that the state government has started an investigation in this regard and hence there is no need for a separate inquiry into the incident.

Following the death of the victim, his family members moved to Calcutta High Court. The public prosecutor told the court that the victim was not beaten to death inside the police lock up.

The Court asked if the victim was not beaten to death inside the police lock-up then how did he suffer deep injuries in various parts of his body including head.
