Eight TMC workers injured after being attacked by CPI(M)

One of the injured was taken to Malda medical College and hospital where his condition is stated to be critical. An FIR has been lodged against the accused. The police have started an investigation.

The trouble in the area began after alliance candidate Gautam Das was elected from the seat. CPI(M) and Congress workers began threatening Trinamool Congress supporters with dire consequences. There were several bouts of verbal duel.

Early Saturday morning CPI(M) supporters armed with rods, bamboo sticks raided the TMC party office in Durgapur. They beat up the victims. Even women were not spared. They ransacked the room, broke the almirahs and smashed the photograph of party supremo Mamata Banerjee. They left the place leaving the injured in a pool of blood.

Attracted by their cries for help, local people went to the spot and found them lying on the floor.
They took them to Gangarampur sub divisional hospital where seven were treated and released while one was taken to Malda medical College and hospital where he was admitted in a critical condition.

Narayan Biswas, district secretary of CPI(M) denied involvement of party-men and said this was the result of internal squabbles. This is CPI(M)’s new tactics. After beating up TMC supporters in their stronghold they are denying involvement of party activists and blaming the whole thing to TMC’s infighting.

It may be mentioned that 17 of TMC workers had been killed since election dates were announced. Mamata Banerjee has asked party workers to maintain cool and not to get provoked. She also told the MLAs who had come to her residence on May 20 to maintain peace in their respective areas.
