Whirlwind romance and fairytale wedding

A million hearts skipped a beat when India's most talked-about couple — Bollywood star Anushka Sharma and Indian cricket Captain Virat Kohli — on Monday tied the knot in Italy, ending days of suspense and intense media speculation about the couple's marriage plans. The Indian cricket team captain took to Twitter to announce the news, and the post sent Twitter into overdrive as it went on to receive around 6000 retweets and 15000 likes in just 12 minutes! There were tweets every second as fans begged the couple to end their agony and share their photos. The two were soon top trends in social media, and when the images finally came, the virtual world went berserk. In one of the most eagerly anticipated weddings in tinsel town and the playing fields, the two wed in a private ceremony, attended by close family members and friends, at a resort in Tuscany, Italy. "Today we have promised each other to be bound in love forever. We are truly blessed to share the news with you," Sharma and Kohli said on Twitter, posting pictures of the wedding ceremony. The bride looked positively regal in a pink Sabyasachi wedding lehenga, while the groom looked dapper in a colour-coordinated sherwani from the same designer. "This beautiful day will be made more special with the love and support of our family of fans and well-wishers. Thank you for being such an important part of our journey," they said in identical Tweets. Sharma and Kohli, who were married by Hindu wedding rituals, will host a reception in New Delhi on December 21 followed by another bash in Mumbai for their industry friends and cricketers on December 26. A wedding between a cricketer and a Bollywood star always makes headlines, but Virat and Anushka are two individuals with sparkling careers. Nobody expected a wedding right now, but as people were wondering will-they-won't-they, the cricketer and actor turned the conversation to 'when will they'. The sudden announcement caught everyone off-guard. The couple met during a shampoo ad shoot in 2013 and sparks instantly flew. Their crackling chemistry was there for everyone to see, and a whirlwind romance began. A recent television advertisement shows the couple expressing their feelings for each other. The lovelorn look in their eyes is unmistakable. A section of the media coined the term Virushka to refer to the power couple who seemed inseparable. In 2014, an Australian commentator, Michael Slater called Anushka, Virat's wife by mistake. The celebrity couple, who had been dating for four years, kept their wedding plans under wraps despite the prying eyes of the paparazzi. In October, a newspaper reported that an Italian wedding may be on the cards for the couple. The rumours gained momentum after Kohli was rested for the remaining ODI series against Sri Lanka. In a statement by Sharma's representative, the couple said they will shift to their new residence in Worli, Mumbai later this month. After the reception, the couple will fly to South Africa where Kohli will be prepping for the upcoming series. The actor will spend the New Year's Eve with her husband before flying back to Mumbai to start the shooting of Aanand L Rai's film with Shah Rukh Khan.
