Marriages made in heaven

The pictures that have emerged of Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh's private wedding at Lake Como's Villa Di Balbianello in Italy on November 14 and 15 have taken the world by storm for the romance and understated glamour that they represent. Although there are fewer pictures of the wedding as the media was not allowed inside venue, the newly-married couple has shared only 18 pictures so far, that came in two tranches of two and 16 pictures. These pictures have aptly captured the great chemistry between the two highly successful Bollywood actors who decided to solemnise their six-year-long courtship into marriage. Charming and adorable, the couple made a style statement at their wedding which was both romantic and classy, the wedding venue decorated with red and white roses and the couple draped in Sabyasachi Mukherjee outfits, prompting other eligible singles in the film industry such as Karan Johar, Sonakshi Sinha, and Huma Qureshi expressing their desire to get hitched as soon as possible. The marriage was solemnised in Konkani and Sikh traditions and on Wednesday evening, the first of the two receptions that the couple has planned will take place in Bengaluru where Deepika's side of family and friends are expected to bless the couple. Another reception will be organised in Mumbai where the Bollywood fraternity will raise a toast to the couple's happy life ahead. Like their presence on the screen, Deepika and Ranveer exude a mix of multiple emotions — modesty, confidence, nervousness — and at the same time that makes their images so powerful and beseeching. They look so much made for each other!

Following close on the heels of Deepika-Ranveerwedding, another equally high-profile wedding of Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra and American singer Nick Jonas is approaching. It will be solemnised on a royal scale in a royal setting in Rajasthan. Recently, Priyanka was in Jaipur for jewellery shopping, for which Jaipur has a brand recognition all over the world. The vivacious former Miss World and the American singing sensation have been dating for over a year now and her fans are eagerly waiting for the big event slated for sometime next month. As of now, Nick and his parents have come to India and spent time with Priyanka's family to work out their marriage plans. Priyanka and her fiance are said to have zeroed in on the house that they want to purchase and live there as a married couple. Recently, Priyanka organised a bachelorette party in Amsterdam for her friends, and before that, Priyanka and her fiance Nick Jonas were at Akash Ambani's engagement party in Mumbai. In September this year, Priyanka was among the few guests at Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal's engagement at Lake Como in Italy. Akash Ambani and Shloka Mehta's wedding is scheduled in early December this year and Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal's wedding is also likely to be solemnised around the same time. And, when Mukesh and Nita Ambani organise a party, the who's who of the world's celebrities are in attendance.

Life is a celebration and marriages are one such occasion when the celebration is dwarfed by the expectation and responsibility that comes along with it. It is said that the period of honeymoon is short and real life takes over too soon. About a year ago, India captain Virat Kohli got hitched with Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma in a high-profile marriage in Italy. Now, the couple is busy in their respective professional lives and the extraordinariness of the moment of their marriage looks well past them or they may have so much advanced in their relationship that they don't need to show off what they mean to one another. However, nothing diminishes the value or the extraordinary feeling that marriage brings to those who choose to walk down the aisle. The hard-to-come-by togetherness and the illusive bliss of married life sometimes make us sceptical about the institution of marriage but by far this is the most trusted relationship that promises to stay with the person through the uncertainties of life. It is said that unmarried people do not have an idea of how much love and care they always deserved and how naturally and easily it was always within their reach. But as Priyanka said in one of the interviews that it is important to respect one another's space and feelings in marriage to keep it going, one needs to work out what makes marriage successful and never lose sight of those basic principles that make the happy togetherness and the bliss of a married life a reality. Who knows this better than the Indian film industry artistes who have explored the relationship in all its manifestations on screen!
