Colours of beauty

In what has indeed been a spectacular event this year, the newly crowned Miss Universe, South Africa's 26-year-old Zozibini Tunzi defeated Miss Universe Puerto Rico to win the contest. Zozibini and Miss Universe Puerto Rico Madison Anderson were the top two contestants for the Miss Universe title. Miss Universe Mexico the second-runner up. Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray crowned Zozibini Tunzi at the event held in Atlanta on Sunday night where India's Vartika Singh fell short of making it to top ten. Hailing from Tsolo, South Africa, 26-year-old Zozibini Tunzi has made a mark in the fight against gender-based violence. Described as having devoted her social media campaign to changing the narrative around gender stereotypes, she is a proud advocate for natural beauty and encourages women to love themselves the way they are. The pageant brought 90 women together to see who will bring home the coveted title, competing in swimsuit, evening gown, and on-stage question rounds, the contestants were of marked calibre. The stellar response in the final question that won Miss Universe South Africa the crown was: "What is the most important thing you should be teaching young girls today?" This question was a novel addition this year that each contestant was given the opportunity to make a final statement for the audience and judges. Certainly, beauty in not just in a person's looks but primarily in the way one thinks. Going beyond superficialities of colour, there is perhaps nothing more beautiful than a person's intellect. Miss. Universe platform this year proved just that this year.
