Eco Park to get houseboat restaurant on April 14

A house boat restaurant will be the gift of Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) to the people on the Bengali New Year’s Day which falls on April 14.

The restaurant will come up at Eco Park. The restaurant is the only one of its kind in West Bengal. A team from HIDCO had visited Kerala to see houseboats. The houseboat is a combination of the styles that are found in Kashmir and Kerela.

But unlike the houseboats in Kashmir or Kerela, the house boat restaurant is stationary. The floor and ceiling of the restaurant are made of wood. It will be air conditioned and there will be live music on weekends. People can enjoy the sunset while enjoying food on the deck of the houseboat. In addition to the Bengali cuisine, there will be Mughlai and Continental food available in the restaurant.

It may be mentioned that Eco Park is coming up as the major tourist spot in the city. Since its inception, nearly 50 lakh people have visited the spot. There are gardens and a toy train, a replica of the famous Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. The Ghoom station has also been recreated. A Japanese garden is coming up to commemorate Tagore’s first visit to Japan, a century ago. Café Ekante, a restaurant named by Mamata Banerjee is becoming increasingly popular. A sunset trip where people can enjoy the sunset at Eco Park is being organised where light refreshment is given to the visitors.
