EC show-causes BJP state president

The Election Commission has served show-cause notice to Dilip Ghosh, BJP’s state president who is also contesting in the forthcoming Assembly seat from Kharagpur Sadar.

The EC received a complaint against Ghosh as he had allegedly made some derogatory comments while holding an election rally at Gopiballavpur few days ago. After receiving complaint the EC had sought a CD containing the entire speech that Ghosh had delivered there. As EC  had found some derogatory comments violating the norms set by the Election Commission.

In another incident , the EC did not allow a road show where the BJP leader Babul Supriyo was expected to join. It was learnt that the police who were working under the direction of the EC did not allow the road show as the local BJP leaders did not have proper permission from the police for the road show. Meanwhile, acting on a complaint by the Trinamool Congress about a 'defamatory' flex board used by CPI(M) at Jamuria Assembly constituency in Burdwan district, the EC has initiated prompt action and removed three such flex boards.

"As per Action Taken Report of the Returning Office of Jamuria Assembly Constituency, Flying Squad team of the poll panel inquired into the complaint and removed flex boards from three places under the same constituency," the EC officials said. TMC national spokesperson Derek O'Brien said the flex boards were an example of defamatory election propaganda by CPI(M) candidate Jahanara Khan. The EC also barred political parties and candidates from giving any print media advertisement on April 3 and April 4 for the first phase of the Assembly polls, without pre-certification.
