EC probe, FIR against Shah for revenge speech

Bijnore district authorities booked Amit Shah, the BJP’s UP in-charge, for allegedly inciting the public through his ‘revenge’ remark. Election authorities in the state sent the CD of the controversial remarks by Shah along with the report of district election officer to the Election Commission on Sunday. Sources said the chief electoral officer of UP had taken cognizance of Shah’s statement and had sought the CD along with a detailed report from the district authorities. The EC is likely to take a call on the issue in its meeting on Monday, the sources said.

‘FIR has been filed against Amit Shah. His speech was in violation of Model Code of Conduct,’ said Umesh Sinha, chief electoral officer, Uttar Pradesh. Reacting to this, BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said, ‘The FIR against Amit Shah is a calculated design to communalise and polarise the election scenario in UP. We condemn it. This case hasn’t been registered by just SP, but Congress and BSP too’

Earlier in the day, Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said, ‘Mr Shah’s rank communal remark shows that BJP does not understand the idea of India and its agenda is to divide communities and get votes.’
