East MCD seeks uncleared property tax dues

In order to improve its financial condition, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation has approached various government departments to realise their outstanding property tax worth crores of rupees.

The East MCD Mayor, Meenakshi, said that a number of government departments, including Delhi government schools, Delhi Transco Limited, DDA, DUSIB, are among the major defaulters, owing crores of property tax to the EDMC. The Mayor said that all departments whose property or service taxes are due, are being approached, requesting them to pay their dues.

A property tax worth approximately Rs 116 crore is due up on the Delhi Development Authority;
Rs 1.03 crore — Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation; Rs 61 lakh — Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board; Rs 35 lakh — Mandoli Jail; Rs 88.99 lakh — Delhi Transco
Limited; Rs 2.98 crore — GTB hospital; Rs 4.29 crore — Northern Railway; Rs 33.40 crore — Power Grid Corporation of India; Rs. 22.41 crore — BSES; Rs 5.40 crore — Estate Office, Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Science; Rs 85 lakh up on police stations and other properties; Rs 16 lakh — Sanskar Ashram and Rs 2.38 crore up on IOC.
