E-commerce firm to launch ‘Durga Puja store’

E-commerce giant Amazon will come up with a special ‘Durga Puja Store’ on its website much before the festive season begins. Dedicated to Bengali buyers, the digital store will have an exquisite variety of products, as the company sees Kolkata as a fast-growing market.

“We have a research team to cultivate the products in accordance with rich Bengali tradition. People require various things during the festival, from apparel to personal care to electronics; Puja is the best time to buy products with lots of discounts on the way,” Saurabh Srivastava, director of category management, said on Thursday.

“Bengali buyers are always looking for health and personal care items, beauty and FMCG products, electronics, baby products and toys at Amazon,” said Srivastava, adding that Kolkata is very fond of books and tea. “I think these two products are very close to a Bengali’s heart as we have witnessed a high purchase rate in these products,” he stated.

The company has 22 fulfilment centres from where the products are transported to different places across the nation. The number will soon rise to 27 by the end of the year. “We have one fulfilment centre in West Bengal which is responsible for distributing products in the state and in the north-eastern states of the country,” Srivastava added.

The company has 254 sellers in West Bengal. “The sale pattern is extremely encouraging in the state. Most buyers here buy via credit or debit card. I can see this state as one of the best markets in India,” he said.
