Dumping of construction waste in Ggn: 16 sites allotted

In order to check the rising pollution levels in the city, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has identified 16 sites to dump construction and demolition waste. The dumping areas have been divided into four zones — one each in Sohna, Gurgaon, Pataudi and Badshahpur blocks of the Gurgaon district.

According to information received, Gurgaon generates around 500-700 tonnes of construction waste everyday and still does not have its own construction and demolition waste management plant. Open areas like green belts on the roadsides, vacant plots of various localities and sometimes in the Aravallis along the Gurgaon-Faridabad Road are used as dumping sites by the developers.

However, the civic body officials have said dumping has been checked after the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had asked the civic body to check air pollution caused by dust due to increase in construction activities in the city.

Zone I will include areas like Khandsa village behind the government school, Kadipur,  the low lying area near MCG store, Basai village near the cremation ground and railway line, Bhawani Enclave behind Gaushala of Basai and Basai road near the auto market.

Zone II will include areas like Palam Vihar, Bajghera Road, Pawala Khusrupur near Nalah, Udyog Vihar Phase I near Ghatta village and Sirhaul village near toll plaza towards Dundahera.

Zone III will include areas like Sikanderpur village, Wazirabad and Ghata.

Zone IV will include areas like Fazilpur Jharsa in front of Spaze Tower, Begampur Khatola near Khatta, Naharpur Transport Nagar and Badshahpur behind Killa.

The civic body has decided that it would collect construction and demolition waste at Rs 1,000 per trolley and Rs 3,000 for each dumper. The service can be availed by dialing the toll free number, 1800180187.
