On Tuesday, on the occasion of World Disabled day, the University of Delhi (DU) has decided to send 100 disabled students – from the 1,100 disabled students currently enrolled in DU – to foreign universities next semester to give them an idea of the disabled students living in abroad.

After a nation-wide campaign, encouraging more disabled students to join the university, a ceremony was held in collaboration with Action for Ability Development and Inclusion (AADI) and the Equal opportunity Cell of the DU on Tuesday.

Dinesh Singh, DU vice-chancellor, said, ‘We have decided to send 100 disabled students out of the 1,100 currently studying in DU abroad to expose them to the similar students and their lifestyles.’

Singh also added that, he will ensure that the university colleges are sensitised towards the disabled students and their needs.’

Vipin Tiwary, officer on special duty, Equal Opportunity Cell of DU, said, ‘This is the first time such an initiative is done in DU.’

Tiwary also added that ‘the aim of the campaign was to generate the awareness and sensitise citizens about the rights of persons with disability.’
