DU teachers get support from Left

The ongoing tussle between Delhi University administration and Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) has now turned into an ideological battle with a large number of known Left-wing intellectuals coming out in support of Democratic Teachers' Front (DTF)-controlled teachers body. DTF is affiliated to Communist Party of India (Marxist).

Leading the bandwagon of supporters is former Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, Mushirul Hasan, who has reportedly moved a petition before Prime Minister seeking his 'urgent intervention in the crisis threatening Delhi University with imminent destruction.' The DUTA has been quick to explain its gratitude to Hasan, presently Director General of the National Archives of India, for 'having considered the crisis of governance at DU, which teachers, students and non-teaching employees have been facing for months now.'

According to DUTA president Amardeo Sharma, 'the crisis is grave enough to initiate a petition that has subsequently received the support of some of the world's most well-known academics and intellectuals. Sharma said, 'This independently-initiated petition signed by more than 1,000 people concerned from across the globe will impress upon the PM the seriousness of the crisis thrust upon DU by the present administration, and the crying need for his intervention.'
