DU Chancellor’s nominee censured by exec council

Delhi University’s executive council (EC) on Tuesday censured the Chancellor’s nominee Javid Chaudhury for allegedly spreading false information about K Kasturirangan, honorary professor of
the varsity and former ISRO chief.

Chaudhury had yesterday in a letter to Vice Chancellor <g data-gr-id="30">Dinsesh</g> Singh claimed that Kasturirangan was also on the committee which had selected Dinesh Singh to the post. The same letter was shared with the media as well.

Vice President Hamid Ansari is the varsity’s Chancellor and Chaudhury is his nominee in the DU EC.
“The matter was raised in the emergent meeting of the EC today (Tuesday).

“Chaudhury has <g data-gr-id="28">propogated</g> false facts about the search committee. Neither Kasturirangan was on the earlier VC search panel nor he was the scientific Advisor to the then Prime Minister as mentioned in the letter,” official sources said.

“He also used abusive language at the meeting and misbehaved during the meeting when confronted. Hence, the EC passed a resolution with two dissents to censure him,” they added.

While Chaudhury denied that he used any foul language, he did admit the mistake in the letter as a “typographical error”.

“This is to point out that there has been a small typographical error. “The search committee set up in <g data-gr-id="27">year</g> 2010 had Dr R Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Advisor to the GOI on it and not Dr K
Kasturirangan,” he said in a statement.
