DU admissions: 10 transgender applications so far

A separate category for the transgender community was introduced in 2014 in all central universitiesincluding across the Delhi University (DU) colleges.

To increase the number of transgender applicants and to make higher education institutions accessible to the members of the community, the university had instructed colleges to build transgender-friendly infrastructure, especially the washrooms and restrooms.

More than 20 students this year enrolled under the transgender category for the admission in DU’s post graduate courses for the session 2016-17.  The universities were also suggested to introduce chapters borrowed from research on the transgender community in the curriculum at all levels of study as a mandatory component.

Total number of registrations till 6 pm were 3,16,632 of which 2,00,210 have already paid the fee,” DU Registrar Tarun Das said. “The numbers of female applicants are 99,322 while the numbers of male applicants are 1,00,878. Also, 28,279 from Schedule Caste (SC) category and 5,021 from the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category’s aspirants have applied,” he added.

This is for the first time that the university had introduced complete online admission procedure for UG admissions unlike previous years when it used to be both online and offline. The online registration process began on June 1 and will continue till June 19.
