DTC buses to Faridabad hike fare

The burden of the hike in the CNG prices has been transferred to commuters in NCR region with DTC hiking fare for the buses plying on the Faridabad route. Commuters may face further heat as taxi and auto unions are also pushing for fare hike in the city. Defending the fare hike, a DTC officer said the increase has been done to make it at par with fare charged in Haryana State Transport buses.

In the recent hike on Delhi-Faridabad route, the DTC increased the fare for AC buses from Rs 50 to Rs 58 and also a Rs 3 hike in non-AC buses. According to sources, the corporation is also facing loss due to increase in the price of CNG and may revise fares on its all the routes.

‘The fare for the auto and taxi was revised in 2010 when CNG price was Rs 21.90 per kg now it has become Rs 38.55 per kg. We are facing huge losses and an revision of fare is imminent,’ said Rajender Soni of Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh. A delegation of the union is likely to meet the Delhi Transport minister, Arvinder Singh Lovely, on Monday demanding fare revision and rollback of the recent increase in CNG prices. The government has announced a recent increase of Rs 2.90 per kg on CNG in the city.

Explaining his strategy, Soni further said that the union would give a week’s time to the government to take a call on the issue, but if unheard they would sit on indefinite dharna on 23 July at Rajghat to
press for their demands. The union has demanded to increase the auto fare from Rs 19 to Rs 30 for the first two kilometres and Rs 3.50 hike in each kilometre above the minimum distance slab. Meanwhile, the taxi drivers have also demanded to increase the rate of fixed slab for first one km from Rs 20 to Rs 40 and an increase of Rs 7 per kilometre above minimum distance slab. The radio taxis in the city are already charging a flat rate of Rs 18 per km from consumers. However, unestablished radio taxis charge Rs 10 per kilometre.
