DSP, SHO shifted after woman constable levels sexual harassment charge

Deputy Superintendent of Police and SHO of Modinagar area were transferred on Tuesday after a woman constable levelled allegation of sexual harassment against them. The DSP has been transferred to election cell while the SHO was sent to police lines.

Senior Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Singh said that the Haryana police constable, posted at CBI office in New Delhi, had filed a complaint against Modinagar DySP (Circle Officer) Jagat Ram Joshi, his gunner Rupesh and SHO Deepak Sharma.

She has alleged that her modesty was outraged during her arrest at Modinagar police station on August 3.

The CBI officials had transferred her complaint to Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Jagmohan Yadav for further action.

“As directed by the DGP, I personally visited Modinagar police station last night to investigate the matter,” the SSP said.

However, the SSP said that during the initial probe it was found that the woman constable’s version was not true.

“CCTV footage and call detail record of the constable screened by me contradicts her complaint. The
allegations levelled by her against police officials are totally false. The inquiry has been handed over SP Crime Ram Abhilash Tripathi,” the officer said.

The Inquiry Officer Tripathi told that he has received the documents and will submit a detailed report to the senior officials at the earliest. On August 3, the woman constable was arrested and sent to jail after the gunner Rupesh had lodged an FIR against her at Modinagar police station under various sections of the IPC and SC/ST Act.

The gunner had alleged that the woman used derogatory and casteist remarks against him as he tried  to intervene in a scuffle between her and a shopkeeper in the city.

After her release on bail, the woman alleged that the DySP, his gunner and the SHO outraged her modesty during her arrest and also gave life threats.
