Drunk doctor creates ruckus in mall, arrested

A doctor of a government-run health centre was arrested by the police for creating trouble inside a shopping mall in an inebriated state.

The incident occurred at Balurghat in South Dinajpur on Wednesday.

Police said that the accused Debasish Bhowmik, a homeopathic doctor of a primary health center at Tapan had gone to a shopping mall with his wife.

It was alleged that Bhowmik in an inebriated state and misbehaved with some people inside the mall.

The employees of the mall requested him not to misbehave but this further infuriated the accused doctor and he started hurling abuses at the staff members of the mall.

The incident triggered tension among some people inside the shopping mall.

Many people who came to the shopping mall for marketing finally returned home as trouble broke 
out between the accused and the staff members of the shopping mall.

As nobody could calm the accused doctor, the shopping mall authorities informed the matter to the local police station.

Police reached the spot and tried to dissuade him from hurling abusive language. But nothing could stop him.

The accused had threatened an on-duty police officer by saying that he would sack him from the job.

Having found no other way, the police finally arrested the accused.

It has been learnt that the accused doctor has been booked under Sections 506 and 448 of the IPC.

During the interrogation, the accused told the police that he did not do what has been alleged.

He also claimed in the face of interrogation that he did nothing wrong and he has been framed 
by the police and some of the staff members of the shopping mall. The accused was produced before a court in the district. A probe is on.
