Drugs worth Rs 1.6 crore seized

A chemist shop owner and a customs clearing agent were arrested with ketamine drug worth Rs 1.6 crore here, police said on Friday. The psychotropic substance is used in rave parties.

Suresh Chand Yadav, 47, and Sanjay Kumar, 38, were arrested with 16 kg of ketamine, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Railways) S B S Tyagi.

Yadav was arrested at Sanik Vihar with a kilogram of the drug on Tuesday. He was supposed to supply it to a rave party, the police officer said.

The second accused, Kumar, was arrested Wednesday from his house in Rohini with 15 kg of ketamine.

Tyagi said one Atul Kumar Aggarwal offered Kumar, a customs clearing agent, the chance to smuggle ketamine to Malaysia and Canada.

Aggarwal was arrested a few months ago at Indira Gandhi International airport but he managed to escape, Tyagi said. Tyagi said ketamine was commonly used for anaesthesia but its distilled, evaporated and condensed form was also snorted or taken as pill at rave parties.
