Dowry victim’s kin jam traffic to register FIR

Commuters were stuck in traffic jam for hours at Delhi Noida border on Tuesday morning as relatives of dowry death victim protested with her body at the office of Noida police chief. The jam was cleared only when the police chief assured them of immediate action.

The relatives of the dowry victim reached the office of senior superintendent of police [SSP] at Noida gate in Sector 14 and protested on the roads with the body of the victim. This lead to traffic jam on both directions, as it’s major traffic point connecting Noida and Delhi. The vehicles stalled on U P Link Road as well as several bylanes of Noida. ‘I was stuck here for an hour and no police is here to help us,’ said Ramesh Singh, a commuter. The traffic jam cascaded on to major roads of Noida like Udyog Vihar, MP-1 and MP-2. The relatives cleared the jam only when the police officers produced a copy of the FIR registered in Bishrakh police station area.

According to the police, the victim, Jyoti [22], was married to Ghyanendra [27] from Sonpur village of Greater Noida, two years ago.

She was allegedly poisoned to death by her in-laws on Tuesday evening. The relatives complained to the police at around 8 pm, but no action was taken.

‘The police is now under pressure to find the culprits who killed my daughter. They were not even registering the complaint before,’ said Ratiram, the father of the accused. It was learnt that only after the relatives protested at the police chief’s office, the FIR was registered.

Victim’s husband, his parents, brother and uncle have been named in the FIR. All the accused are absconding.

‘I have directed the officials concerned to take up the matter immediately and nab the accused at the earliest,’ said Praveen Kumar, SSP Noida.
