Downpour dampener: Chaos rules Delhi

Thursday morning rain caused severe traffic bottlenecks once again in many areas in the national Capital. Areas around Mahipalpur, IGI Airport, Palam, Dwarka, NH-8, Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, Karol Bagh and Naraina were the worst-hit.

Between 8am and 10 am, severe jams were reported at Mahipalpur Flyover, Palam, NH-8, <g data-gr-id="28">Karkari</g> Mod, Dwarka sub-city, the stretch from Delhi Cantonment to Palam, Rao Tula Ram Hospital, Chirag Dilli, Madhu Vihar, Preet Vihar, the stretch from Dhaula Kuan to Karol Bagh, Kalindi Kunj, the stretch from Greater Kailash 2 to Kalkaji, the entire Mehrauli-Badarpur Road and Chhatarpur, said a Delhi Traffic Police official.

Between 10am and 12 noon, snarls were reported around Brijpuri, Karampura, the stretch from Savitri Cinema to Greater Kailash, near Pitampura powerhouse, Najafgarh, Azad Market Chowk, the stretch from GPO to Ring Road, Pusa Road roundabout, Anand Parvat and Delhi Aerocity. 

The long tailbacks at Dwarka, Palam and Mehipalpur hadn't cleared by then.

Between 12 noon and <g data-gr-id="49">2pm</g>, chaos was reported around Liberty Cinema, Delhi Gate, the stretch from 

Bahadurgarh bus stand to Najafgarh, Sangam Vihar, the stretch from Khanpur to Deoli, the underpass near IGI Airport, Munirka, the stretch from <g data-gr-id="29">Durgapuri</g> to <g data-gr-id="30">Maujpur</g>, Janpath Road, GTB Hospital, AIIMS, near the ESI Hospital at Karol Bagh and the Metro Station there, and near Model Town.

After 2pm, severe traffic snarls were reported at Naraina, at the stretch from Green Park to Vasant Kunj, Samaipur <g data-gr-id="27">Badli</g>, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, Aurobindo Marg, IIT-Delhi, ITO intersection, JLN Stadium, the stretch from Lahori Gate to Sadr Bazar, Hauz Khas, near Saket Metro Station on Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, Ashram Chowk and Karkardooma Court. The chock-a-block situation at Naraina also continued.

Most of the <g data-gr-id="22">snarls</g> were reportedly caused by waterlogging, the traffic official added.

Besides, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation reported waterlogging at Khajoori Khas, Karawal Nagar, Mandawali <g data-gr-id="24">Fazlpur</g>, Preet Vihar, IP Extension and Krishna Nagar. The North Corporation Shastri Nagar, Tikri Kalan Village, Sectors 16 and 18 at Rohini, Sultanpur, East Patel Nagar and New Rohtak Road.
