‘Don’t believe in first or second lead’

Bollywood superstar Ranbir Kapoor said he does not focus on hankering after lead roles or playing second or third lead and so on, but would rather choose to act in a film role where the character excites him.

The actor was speaking at the home video launch of his film Barfi! in Bandra recently where he was accompanied by co-actor Ileana D’Cruz, director Anurag Basu and others. Barfi! was recently announced as India’s official entry to the Oscars 2013.

Pooh poohing the egoistic scramble for playing first lead, second lead or any other, Kapoor said: ‘I don’t believe in first lead or second lead or third lead. I myself have done a film called
Rajneeti
where there was nothing such as me or somebody else being the first lead. That was a good script and it had a character that excites me as an actor.’

On asked whether he had declined to play second lead in a film with Karan Johar, he said no such film had been offered to him.

Asked about his first Diwali celebration in Bollywood and how this Diwali turned out for him, the film star candidly admitted: ‘I worked for two years in films which were screened in the theatres today and taken off the next day. Thankfully, this Diwali, the DVD of this film DVD (Barfi!) of mine has been released and the movie ran well in theatres and earned a lot of money. So I am wearing a new shirt today.’

‘It’s been a great Diwali for me most of the five years and life has been worth it. How these five years went by and how I feel — it’s like I have won some achievement awards. I have a lot of things to do including working in a lot of films, launching a lot of characters and lots of DVDs. So I hope this (momentum) continues,’ he said.
