Domestic help beaten for turning up late

An elderly domestic help was beaten up by her employer on Monday morning. The incident took place in East Kolkata, under the jurisdiction of Karaya Police Station. The victim has lodged a complaint in the police station.

The police have initiated a probe and the accused were called to the police station and were grilled. However, the police source said, the accused Firoz Khan is the son of a retired assistant commissioner of police Murtaza Khan. It was Khan who opened the door for Ruksana Begham, the domestic help. He then began to quarrel with her and the heated argument turned into a fight. According to the police source, Ruksana was beaten up there and threatened. She then went to the police station and lodged a complaint there. ‘She was late today (Monday). Thus, the accused beat her up,” said a police officer.

However, the investigators interrogated some of their family members as well. The police even questioned some of the neighbours to know whether Ruksana was lying or not. “We are probing the case from all angles. The neighbours’ opinions were also taken,” the officer added.

The neighbours gave some information to the police which were relevant to this case. Some domestic helps also reached the Karaya police station in support of Ruksana. They demanded the arrest of the accused and threatened the police that they would block the road if the accused is not be booked.
