DMCs, govt to lock horns over transfers

The transfers of senior officers from three civic bodies is set to be the cause for a new battle between Delhi government and the BJP-ruled municipal corporations. The latter have alleged that the transfers are a ploy of the government to derail their development works ahead of the upcoming Delhi assembly elections. The government has reshuffled five senior IAS officers in the corporations besides over a dozen officers of deputy commissioner rank since April.

Acting on the directions  of the union ministry of home affairs, the commissioner of North Delhi Municipal Corporation P K Gupta on Friday, issued a notice transferring senior IAS officer Pawan Sharma, additional commissioner, from North DMC to East DMC.
In the same order R S Meena, deputy commissioner (DC) in North DMC has also been transferred to East DMC. This is the third transfer of Meena within approximately two months. He was recently transferred from DC city zone to DC Narela. Similarly, S S Gill and Harmendra Kumar, who are DC rank officers, have received three transfers within two months.

In South DMC, B M Mishra (IAS), who came from Delhi government in April and joined as DC of central zone was transferred to replace DC south zone Krishna Kumar (IAS) in June.
Similarily, over half a dozen officers of DC rank serving on crucial posts have been transferred recently.

The East DMC received a major blow when commissioner S S Yadav was shifted to Delhi government in April. Here too over a dozen senior officers have been transferred.
‘It’s a ploy of the Delhi government to derail the development works being carried out by the corporations before the upcoming elections,’ said Rajesh Gehlot, chairman of standing committee in South DMC.

The leader of house in North DMC, Mahender Nagal said, ‘We have already registered our protest to the commissioner on such transfers but he has passed the buck to the Delhi government and central government.’
