DM orders probe into Bolpur nursing home incident

The District Magistrate of Birbhum P Mohan Gandhi ordered a probe into the alleged medical negligence at a private nursing home in Bolpur, where two tribal women accused the doctors of performing the wrong operation.

Gandhi has formed a high-level committee, headed by the Chief Medical Officer of the district, which will visit the nursing home and carry out a detailed probe into the incident. The team will also converse with the victims and the local villagers before talking to the staff members and doctors of the nursing home.

After conducting the probe, the inquiry committee will submit the report to the DM.

The DM initiated the probe after it was alleged that touts were involved in the incident. Gandhi has assured stern action against those who will be found guilty for conducting the false operation.

It may be mentioned that a mob had ransacked a portion of the nursing home in Bolpur, after two women had alleged a glaring negligence on the part of the doctors who had performed an operation on their eyes despite the women having been admitted to the nursing home with abdomen pain.

The nursing home authorities, however, denied the allegations and maintained that both the women were admitted with eye problems. Family members of the two victims and some local residents went on rampage, ransacking a portion of the nursing home.

It was learnt that on last Tuesday, two tribal women from Gopalnagar village in Bolpur, Binu Soren and Champa Basky, were admitted to the nursing home with abdomen pain.
