DJB tanker mows down man in Dwarka

A 35-year-old two-wheeler rider was crushed to death by a speeding Delhi Jal Board (DJB) tanker in South-west Delhi’s Dwarka area on Sunday, police said. The incident enraged residents of the area and they staged a protest, blocking roads. Police had to resort to mild force and lathicharge to disperse the protesters.

The errant tanker driver, Parvinder, has been arrested and his vehicle impounded, police said. A case under IPC 304(A) has been registered at the  Dwarka police stationr.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Yadram, a resident of Matiwala. The incident took place around 6.15am, while he was returning home from his in-laws’ house on his scooter. 

“When he reached Aashirwad Chowk in Dwarka Sector-4, the speeding DJB tanker hit his vehicle from behind and crushed him,” police said.

Eye-witnesses told the police that the tanker dragged him and his vehicle a few metres away, leaving him critically injured. A police team rushed him to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

The incident enraged residents and they pelted stones at the police, blocked roads in the area, demanding the immediate arrest of the errant tanker driver. The protest also lead to a massive jam in the area.
