DJB tanker kills man in Aman Vihar, driver held

A 32-year-old man was allegedly crushed to death by a speeding tanker of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) in the Aman Vihar area of Outer Delhi on Wednesday morning. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Tantoo Rai. He was riding his motorcycle when a speeding tanker of the DJB rammed into his vehicle near the Rashan Daftar Chowk. Police said that they arrested the errant driver identified as 34-year-old Vinod Kumar, few hours after the accident.

Police said that the accident took place at around 8 am at the Rashan Daftar Chowk in the Kirari area when Rai was heading from Mubarakpur towards Kirari in his motorcycle. A speeding Delhi Jal Board tanker, driven by one Vinod Kumar allegedly rammed the motorcycle.

After the collision, the tanker fled with the vehicle from the spot.

One of the passer-by made a PCR call after he saw Rai lying in a pool of blood. On this, a team of local police rushed Rai to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Sources, meanwhile, said that the errant driver was later caught by the police team in the jurisdiction of the Aman Vihar police station. The accused said that he allegedly was not looking at the main road when the accident took place and hit the motorcycle.

Sources added that police are verifying whether the errant driver of the DJB tanker was driving under the influence of alcohol. Police said that they have registered a case under IPC Sections 279 (Rash driving) and 304 A (Causing death by negligence) at the Aman Vihar police station. Further investigation is still on.
