Dikshit takes out Dignity March

Over 10,000 women under the leadership of Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit came out on the streets of the Capital on Wednesday demanding immediate death sentences for the six accused in the gruesome gang-rape case. The rally, christened Mahila Suraksha Samman March, was organised by Delhi Commission for Women in memory of the victim who passed away at a hospital in Singapore on 29 December. The march started from Bal Bhawan on Kotla Road near city’s busiest intersection – ITO – and ended at Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial at Raj Ghat. The rally started around 11 am and took over two hours to traverse a short distance of less than three kilometres. The crowd comprised of women from various social sectors and cultural organisations and also a large number of students and their teachers.
