Digvijaya admits liaison, declares he’ll marry TV anchor

Confirming the report first published in Millennium Post on Tuesday, Singh on Wednesday morning went on record to say that he had no hesitation in accepting his relationship with Rajya Sabha TV journalist Amrita Rai. Though the social media was abuzz about the relationship for more than 48 hours, clarification from Singh and Rai came only after Millennium Post came out with the report.

Reconfirming the report, Digvijaya wrote on Twitter, ‘I have no hesitation in accepting my relationship with Amrita Rai. She and her husband have already filed a mutual consent divorce case.’ After which he added, ‘Once that is decided we would formalise it. But I do condemn encroachment in our private life.’ He posted a similar message on his Facebook timeline as well.
Soon after his revelation, Rai, in what seemed like a synchronised tweet, said, ‘I have separated from my husband and we have filed a mutual consent divorce. After which I have decided to marry Digvijaya Singh.’ On Tuesday, photographs and videos showcasing the couple’s private and intimate moments had gone ‘viral’. They were seen hugging and holding each other.

After all the high drama, Rai’s estranged husband Anand Pradhan too broke his silence, posting his view on the relationship between Rai and Singh on Facebook. Pradhan, who is an associate professor at the prestigious Indian Institute of Mass Communication, wrote, ‘I am going through difficult and testing times. Amrita and I have lived separate lives for a long time. We have applied for divorce with mutual consent. It is a legal procedure which takes its own time. But the relationship we once had ended long ago.’

‘Amrita is free to take decisions about her future and I respect them. I also wish her the best for her future life,’ he posted on Facebook. Asking people to respect his privacy, he wrote, ‘I know many of my friends, well-wishers, students and colleagues are feeling sorry for me. But more than that, I also know they are with me. I am sure I will come out of these difficult times. I expect you all to respect my privacy.’
