Diamond Harbour lynching: CID submits charge-sheet

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Friday submitted the charge-sheet in connection with the murder of a 23-year-old ITI student before the Diamond Harbour Court.

It may be recalled that an ITI student Kaushik Purakayastha was beaten to death on mere suspicion of stealing a buffalo at Harindanga Dakshinpara in Diamond Harbour in the wee hours on May 10. He was a resident of Mandirbazar and the incident took place when he went to visit his relative Satya Halder’s house.

CID submitted a 383-pages charge-sheet on the 78th day after the incident took place. Names of thirteen people appeared in the charge-sheet and it include the name of Tapas Mullick. The investigating officers had arrested 12 persons in connection to this incident including Mullick and all are at present in judicial custody.

The officers are, however, yet to arrest one Kachari Bagh. His name has appeared in the charge-sheet which was being prepared after interrogating the eye witnesses and based on the circumstantial evidences.

The investigating officers had interrogated the victim’s family members and residents of the area who had witnessed the entire incident. The Court on Friday ordered the investigating officers to arrest Bagh as soon as possible.

The victim’s family members demanded maximum punishment of the accused. The victim’s family members went to Court on Friday morning. The security in the court premises was tightened up apprehending that there could be some trouble.
