Dhulagarh: Case lodged against journalists of news channel

Police lodged a case against a reporter and a cameraperson of a national news channel on December 19 for covering the incidents of clashes that broke out between two groups at Dhulagarh in Howrah. The case was lodged under Section 153 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) that is done on charges of “promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony”.

The sections against them are non-bailable. Sumit Kumar, Superintendent of Police (rural) in Howrah, said: “The case was lodged on December 19 against a journalist and a cameraperson”. However, according to a Facebook post by the editor of the news channel states that the case was also lodged against him apart from the reporter and the cameraperson.
